Summer lab for highschool students

In summer 2017, in collaboration with UIC Early Outreach Program, an academic pipeline that facilitates the development of underrepresented K-12 minority students, our labe conducted a pilot study through recruiting 2 minority high school biology teachers along with 11 minority students, and exposing them to comutational modeling and simulations (Fig. 1). The teachers and students were very interested in computational modeling and simulations in STEM. This project has inspired us to provide more learning opportunities for STEM teachers and students.

We would like to broaden participation of our students. Our programs seek to make the field of computational modeling and simulations more inclusive by sharing UIC’s intellectual wealth and cutting-edge resources.
